The ICP - WCHL25 - Qualification Round, held online from July 1 to 25, 2025, attracted widespread participation from the global developer community. A total of 11,774 developers registered for the hackathon, and 1,551 project submissions were reviewed and approved across five competition tracks: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bitcoin Decentralized Finance (Bitcoin DeFi), Fully On-Chain, Real-World Assets (RWA), and Open Track. As the initial phase of the World Computer Hacker League, the event focuses on encouraging developers to build decentralized applications based on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).
The participating projects explored a variety of areas, including decentralized intelligent systems, Bitcoin-integrated financial applications, full-chain system development, real-world asset tokenization practices, and diverse Web3 implementation scenarios. A key goal of the competition was to deploy a minimum viable product (MVP) to the mainnet, thereby expanding the application landscape of the ICP ecosystem and showcasing developers' technical prowess and innovative ideas.
This round of competition features a $30,000 prize pool for participants to compete for. During the event, organizers also provided developers with technical support, project exposure, and a path to the next round. The high level of participation and the emergence of high-quality projects not only fostered developer growth, but also increased adoption within the ICP ecosystem and highlighted emerging trends in blockchain technology. Notably, the top 50% of projects will advance to the national competition, building momentum for the subsequent global finals.
