About the Artist & History

Pu Yingwei, born in 1989, currently works and lives in Beijing, China. In 2013, he graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree; in 2018, he graduated from the Lyon National Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree and won the highest award from the jury. Pu Yingwei's work is defined as a conceptual art practice with strong utopian enthusiasm. The artist understands the multi-media and identity narrative he practices in the public sphere as a comprehensive mobilization. Taking personal history as an absolute starting point, through different forms of work such as exhibitions, writing, design, lectures, and teaching, the artist tries to produce a "metapolitics" that transcends grand propositions such as race, country, and ethics. This politics is as complex and paradoxical as the reality we experience.
