According to official sources, OpenAI will make a major announcement on Thursday. Based on tweets, this appears to be a prelude to the long-awaited release of the GPT-5 AI model. (Note: OpenAI's post announced a LIVE 5 TREAM at 10 AM Pacific Time on Thursday—note that the "s" in the word "livestream" has been replaced with a "5"). Combined with recent official OpenAI announcements, it seems GPT-5 is imminent. Last Sunday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted a screenshot with "ChatGPT 5" written in the top left corner. The company's head of applied research also posted on Monday that he was excited to see how GPT-5 would be received. Last month, Altman also stated that OpenAI planned to release GPT-5 soon. The Verge's Tom Warren reported in July that OpenAI planned to launch GPT-5 in early August, and in February, he wrote that Microsoft had been preparing server capacity for the new model.
