Odaily News FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for an $11 billion cryptocurrency fraud, but the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons has now set his expected release date as December 14, 2044, and he will actually serve less than 21 years. According to the Bureau of Prisons, prisoners can receive up to 54 days of sentence reduction each year for good behavior, and their sentences can be further shortened by participating in specific prison programs. Bankman-Fried is currently being held at the FCI-Terminal Island low-security prison in California after he was found to have transferred client funds to his hedge fund Alameda Research. His ex-girlfriend, former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, was also sentenced to two years in prison for her participation in the scheme and was also given a sentence reduction. She is expected to be released in May 2026. (Business Insider)
