No soft fork required: StarkWare verifies quantum-safe locking scheme on Bitcoin mainnet, but it is not yet suitable for large-scale use
Odaily reports that Starknet has published an introduction to its Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB) scheme, stating that StarkWare researchers have verified a quantum-safe locking mechanism on the Bitcoin mainnet that requires no soft fork, no new opcodes, and no changes to consensus rules. The first QSB output was spent on August 26, 2026, in Bitcoin mainnet block 964,199, with the associated GPU computation cost reduced from approximately $320 to about $50. QSB builds its locking mechanism through hash computation, but each transaction still requires substantial computation, and moving assets into the scheme still requires a traditional transaction that carries quantum risk. The transaction does not comply with Bitcoin Core's default relay rules, and there is currently no accompanying wallet, address format, or recovery process. StarkWare stated that QSB is an emergency research solution, and that the long-term solution still requires the introduction of post-quantum signature mechanisms via a soft fork. Starknet's full quantum resistance also depends on the progress of Ethereum's underlying upgrades.
Lido Lend Lending Market Proposed, Pending Lido DAO Vote
Odaily News: Lido is developing a decentralized lending market called Lido Lend, which is built on a modified fork of Morpho Blue, adopts an isolated lending market design, is proposed to be governed by Lido DAO, and is pending a governance vote for approval. Lido Lend is limited to blue-chip assets, encourages price-correlated trading pairs such as stETH/ETH, and provides a deposit screening mechanism to guard against bad collateral. Lido stated that Lido Lend is not a general-purpose pool-based lending solution but is aimed at professional borrowers and risk-averse lenders; currently, stETH staking scale exceeds $25 billion, with no major security incidents since launch.
Cardano Introduces CIP-0113 Standard, Allowing Token Issuers to Freeze, Seize, and Restrict Assets
Odaily News: The Cardano Foundation has introduced the CIP-0113 token standard, allowing issuers of regulated assets to restrict recipients based on predefined rules and to freeze, seize, or transfer token holdings. The standard enables issuers to implement such controls without requiring a hard fork of the Cardano network.CIP-0113 requires compliance checks to be executed on every transfer, including identity verification and sanctions list screening. Issuers can choose or customize rules and update them as regulatory requirements change; under the authorization mechanism, relevant parties can transfer tokens without the holder's consent. Vitalik: Praises Nethermind's efficiency improvements, Beacon Chain plugin now synced
Odaily reports: Vitalik Buterin shared Nethermind's development progress and stated that Nethermind is continuously improving Ethereum's efficiency and operating speed. Nethermind core developer Ben Adams said that its Beacon Chain plugin has completed syncing and is ready for the Glamsterdam fork on Sepolia; running Ethereum's execution layer and consensus layer as a single application appears to introduce no significant additional memory overhead. The Ethereum Foundation previously confirmed that Glamsterdam will activate on Sepolia on October 6, and Nethermind 2.1.0 already supports this upgrade.
EIP-8363 Co-author Withdraws Consideration for Inclusion in Hegotá Upgrade
Odaily News: Jerome de Tychey posted on X platform that he will withdraw the consideration of including EIP-8363 in the Hegotá upgrade. Industry participants as well as core protocol and client contributors believe that the hard fork scope discussion is not suitable for deciding issuance policy changes. The proposal authors plan to continue discussing ETH issuance policy through an independent process to seek broader consensus.
Balancer Community Votes to Approve Orderly Wind-Down Proposal, Liquidity Pools to Operate Until October 30
Odaily reports: Balancer officially announced that BAL holders have voted to approve the BIP-928 orderly wind-down proposal, while the competing proposal BIP-929 was not passed. Existing liquidity pools will continue to operate normally until October 30, during which users may withdraw funds at any time.According to the plan, October 16 is the deadline for partners to apply for designated V3 pools to extend operations until November 30; starting October 30, where contracts permit, the relevant pools will transition to withdrawal-only, and the bug bounty program will conclude; on November 30, the V3 Vault will be officially paused.
Balancer Holders Approve Liquidation Plan, Reject Official Fork Chain Proposal
Odaily Report: Token holders of DeFi protocol Balancer have voted to approve a protocol liquidation plan and rejected a proposal to launch an official fork chain. Under the plan, pausable pools will transition to withdrawal-only mode starting October 30; BAL holders will need to wait until the end of May 2027, at which point they can redeem their tokens for protocol treasury assets.
Zano rolls back to before the 6th hard fork, deleting about a month of on-chain transaction records
Odaily reports that privacy blockchain project Zano has rolled back its blockchain to block height 3,833,000, before the 6th hard fork, deleting approximately one month of on-chain transaction records in order to address an inflation vulnerability involving Gateway Addresses. The vulnerability allowed unauthorized minting of the native token ZANO and the USD-pegged stablecoin fUSD. Zano stated that the core consensus protocol, wallet spending keys, and ordinary transaction privacy were not affected, and that nodes, miners, stakers, and service providers need to adopt the update.Freedom Dollar stated that millions of dollars in assets held by the project had been swapped into counterfeit fUSD, and that the related losses will be borne by the project. Freedom Dollar has asked fUSD holders to suspend economic activity involving the token until the stabilized Zano chain is confirmed after repairs. (Bitcoin.com News)
Vitalik Buterin: Ethereum in 2030 may still be called a blockchain, but the way it operates will change dramatically
Odaily reports: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin envisions that Ethereum in 2030 will combine blockchain, cryptographic proofs, and computer networks running outside the blockchain to enhance the network's processing capacity and users' ability to independently verify. Computers could generate brief mathematical proofs after processing transactions, allowing other computers to verify the results without repeating all the computations, and different computers could also process different tasks in parallel. Buterin also envisions privacy protection for payment information, account authorization rules, and wallet balance query requests, in order to reduce the account information exposed when users use wallets. Vitalik: Ethereum Will Become a Hybrid Architecture Combining Blockchain and Modern Cryptography
Odaily reports that Vitalik stated in a post on X that he attempted to briefly explain the true meaning of Ethereum's various plans starting from the fork after Hegota. Ethereum is no longer just a blockchain, but a hybrid architecture combining blockchain and modern cryptography, enabling more powerful features. Related plans include FOCIL, EIP-8288, lean consensus, state management, formal verification, mempool improvements including privacy features, and long-term obfuscation techniques.
