Telegram and TON’s exclusive agreement has caused dissatisfaction among developers, which may lead to TON being marginalized
Odaily News Tim Delhaes, co-founder and CEO of multi-chain wallet Grindery, believes that Telegram’s exclusive agreement with the TON Foundation could alienate developers, which would marginalize TON. It is reported that Telegram now requires third-party crypto wallets to use TON Connect and restricts mini-programs to the TON blockchain. Delhaes explained that the policy shift includes providing developers with a strict 7 to 10-day migration window. This time frame is unusually short for a decentralized ecosystem, as such transitions usually take months. While Telegram markets itself as a champion of decentralization, Delhaes compared its latest move to those by Apple, Google, and Meta, companies that have been criticized for operating walled gardens that limit outside competition. He further pointed out that the changes to Telegram’s encrypted app have affected the entire crypto industry, creating uncertainty for developers building applications in various blockchain ecosystems. Delhaes believes that this move could jeopardize Telegram’s credibility in blockchain applications. He noted that projects like Hamster Combat and Notcoin have amassed large numbers of users, but added that communities and liquidity still exist on other networks. Delhaes said that by creating exclusionary clauses in its terms of service, TON could become irrelevant or become a gimmicky network, albeit one that provides a good framework. (CryptoSlate)
