Meta continues to gradually roll out NFT functionality, adding the ability to post NFTs across Facebook and Instagram for some US users on Monday.

The multibillion-dollar tech company wants to make it easier for users to share their NFTs (what they call digital collectibles) with a one-time connection to a wallet on Facebook or Instagram. After that, users' wallets can be automatically identified if cross-posting is enabled under the account settings of both apps.Additionally, Meta will also be testing digital collectibles on Instagram starting this week with US-based creators and collectors to share the NFTs they create or buy.

Earlier in May,

Instagram Says It's Planning to Integrate Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Flow NFTs, which will initially be piloted to a small group of NFT enthusiasts in the United States.Instagram intends to support widely used crypto wallets such as MetaMask. As long as the user puts the NFT in the wallet, he can prove the ownership of the NFT, display it in his profile, and mark the creator. Plus, Instagram won't charge users to upload and display NFTs.

Then in early August,

Meta officially announces that Instagram will roll out digital collections to more than 100 countries

, more users, creators, and businesses can showcase their NFTs on Instagram. Additionally, Instagram integrates with Coinbase Wallet and Dapper, and supports the Flow blockchain.

NFTs have already gained traction on Twitter as a social media feature, with users buying the Twitter Blue service to "verify" ownership of their NFTs and turn their avatars into hexagonal badges.

Now, Instagram and Meta's foray into the NFT space — as confirmed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in March — is another big move by the Web2 company toward Web3. Meta currently supports Ethereum, Polygon and Flow NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. As for crypto wallets, MetaMask, Rainbow, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and Dapper can connect to verify and share NFTs.

Meta said that when NFTs are shared on Instagram or Facebook, artists and owners will be automatically tagged, and there will be no fee for sharing.

Why is the NFT cross-posting feature important? First of all, this is a big plus for the user experience. For new users managing cryptocurrency wallets, the one-time wallet connection is much less of a burden.

A statement from Meta said that "metaverse interoperability" is the main driver of the cross-release feature.

With parent company Meta testing the waters in the Web3 space, it's no surprise that the lines between Facebook and Instagram are blurring. Since acquiring Instagram 10 years ago, Meta has added features that have deepened the connection between Facebook and Instagram.

For example, Instagram Stories can be cross-posted to Facebook, Instagram posts can easily be reposted to Facebook, and Instagram Pay requires setting up and adding Facebook Pay to purchase items or run ads through Instagram.

Meta did not respond to Decrypt's request for comment on when its NFT feature would go live to all users, but reiterated that starting August 4, Meta "began rolling out digital collectibles on Instagram to individuals, businesses, and creators around the world."
