With the announcement of the fifth and final wave of wallet-themed project funding lists, the EOS Network Foundation is using the most influential way to bring about huge experience changes for users and developers.

Wallet+ and what we plan to achieve

existexistlast week's article

, we announced the four working groups sponsored by the EOS Network Foundation, which will serve as the four core pillars to promote the development of the EOS network. Each working group will submit a blue paper covering one aspect of EOS-related in-depth research in the first quarter. The Blue Book will serve as a roadmap for developing recommendations based on the research of each working group.

  • Wallet+:

The four working groups sponsored by the EOS Network Foundation include:GreymassMainly responsible for integrating EOS into external applications with software, the core development team of Anchor Wallet, Greymass Fuel and EOSIO Signature Request (ESR) protocol

  • Core+:

Mainly responsible for maintaining the EOS system to make EOS more suitable for running various types of applications,EOS AmsterdamEOS DublinEOS BarcelonaandCryptolionsand

  • API+:

Mainly responsible for providing data interfaces to help applications outside the EOS ecosystem better integrate the EOS network,GreymassEOS NationandEOS Rioand

  • Audit+:

Mainly responsible for providing the overall framework of security analysis tools and contract audit for EOS applications,SlowmistandSentnland

Is a partner of the Audit+ working group.

This sounds simple, but in actual operation, different project parties have subtle differences in the creation of EOS accounts and resource management design, and there will be some additional obstacles due to the unique attributes of EOSIO. These additional hurdles and many others will be addressed through the EOS Network Foundation Wallet+ working group led by Greymass.

Problems that the Wallet+ working group is working on

Because the wallets developed by different project parties have different ideas and methods when solving specific problems (such as identification, transaction signature, etc.), it is difficult for application developers to integrate all EOS wallets.

Due to the first reason, many applications need to use a specific wallet, which makes it difficult for users to experience multiple ecological applications in one product. If users want to use a specific application, they need to switch between wallets, which is not only difficult, but also potentially a security risk.

Since wallets or dApps handle EOS network resources differently, it is difficult for users to use different applications, which are not standardized.

It is difficult for developers to onboard new users to their applications, especially those who do not yet have an EOS wallet, which limits interest in applications built on EOS and makes the platform less attractive to developers.

Native applications lack support for common hardware wallets, such as Ledger and Trezor.

  • SDKs

In order to solve the above problems in a unified way, we believe that the burden on users and application developers can be reduced from SDKs, protocols and standard developmentUniversal Authentication Library(Universal Authentication Library) is not ideal for use in many cases, and the only solution currently is for each dApp to build its own solution.

BloksandAtomic HubAdvanced developers on such large platforms as voluntary have already done this consciously, but we cannot expect every developer to be able to build a car from the beginning of the car, so we need an open source software development kit (SDK) so that developers do not have to invest in Huge time and energy, but more thoughts on continuing to develop their applications.

  • protocol

protocol

To improve user experience (UX) and make it easier for developers to operate, the protocols used by each wallet should provide similar compatible features and user flows. One way to achieve this goal is to use the same protocol, another way is to unify the functions of the protocol so that developers can better coordinate when using it.An example would be "how do I prove that this user owns this account". For example,EOSIO Signed Request (ESR)

  • The protocol has a built-in identity request for proof, while Scatter's old protocol requires two steps, the first step is to select users, and the second step is to sign arbitrary transactions as proof. Unifying things like this will improve the end user experience and increase developer adoption of the wallet.

From data formats such as backups and key exports to UI interfaces (such as displaying Ricardian contracts and blocking dangerous operations by default), establishing a set of basic wallet operating guidelines and standards will improve the end-user experience. The process for a user to switch from Wallet A to Wallet B should be easy and familiar as it is all within the same blockchain.

Wave 5 Approved Funding List: Wallet Category

In addition to the launch of the Wallet+ working group, the EOS Network Foundation is pleased to announce the 5th and final wave of approved grants. This round of funding revolves around the wallet category. These selected projects have played a vital role in the EOS ecosystem. We are very pleased to provide each project with an EOS donation of US$100,000 in recognition of their continuous contributions to the EOS ecosystem.

  • Anchor WalletIn addition, as part of the working group plan, the Wallet+ working group has made important progress, and we look forward to the standards and protocols that will be implemented in terms of wallet construction determined according to the blue book.Greymass Fuel: An open source digital wallet focused on security and privacy, suitable for all EOSIO-based networks, including a powerful set of additional features, including using

  • MyKeyBarrier-free resource billing system, etc.

  • Token Pocket: An integrated multi-chain wallet built on the KEYID protocol, providing users on the EOS blockchain with functions such as resource management, key recovery, and identity recognition.

  • Starteos Wallet: Decentralized multi-chain wallet, with more than 3 million monthly active users, the scope of the Money Services Business license includes cross-chain swaps between protocols including EOS.

epilogue

Over the past few months, it has been evident that the EOS ecosystem is gaining momentum. In the past quarter, we have swept away the gloom and have transformed from stagnation to accelerated innovation and development.
