Singapore police team up with 8 crypto platforms in anti-scam operation, intercepting over S$17.4 million in potential losses
Odaily reports: The Singapore Police Force announced that during its fifth joint cryptocurrency anti-scam operation held from September 1 to October 31, it collaborated with 8 digital payment token service providers—including Coinbase, Coinhako, DTCPay, Gemini, Independent Reserve, OKX, StraitsX, and Upbit—to identify more than 383 potential scam victims and successfully prevent potential losses exceeding S$17.4 million (approximately US$13.6 million). Using blockchain analytics tools from Chainalysis and TRM Labs, combined with customer information provided by the trading platforms, the police conducted phone calls and on-site interventions to stop scams involving impersonation of government officials, investment fraud, and job scams.
In addition, the police shared on-chain intelligence with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the New South Wales Police Force in Australia, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, identifying 32 potential overseas victims. The previous fourth round of the operation identified more than 355 potential victims and prevented potential losses exceeding S$8.94 million.
