Lighter Prediction Market Mechanism Reportedly Exposed: Plans to Adopt HIP-3-Style Whitelisted Operator Model

Odaily News: A commit titled "Binary options support" has recently appeared in the codebase of decentralized orderbook exchange platform Lighter, indicating that its ZK Circuits may have begun supporting binary outcome markets (prediction markets). According to the code, each market has a settlement cap (typically 100 for prediction markets), with share prices trading between 0 and that cap, and the market ultimately settling at either 0 or the cap based on the outcome. The mechanism uses full USDC collateralization and does not support leveraged trading, so there is no risk of forced liquidation or liquidation.

Additionally, there are two notable design elements in Lighter's implementation:

First, the Circuits support continuous market settlement, meaning market outcomes can settle at any value between 0 and the cap. This means that in addition to traditional "yes/no" events, it can also support contracts based on actual measured data. For example, a liquidation-free prediction market based on IPO valuation ranges could potentially be launched in the future: users bet on a company's IPO pricing outcome, and the final payout is calculated linearly based on where the actual valuation falls within the range, with minimum and maximum payouts set at the boundaries.

Second, the market creation and settlement mechanism. According to analysis, Lighter may introduce a "market operator" model, allowing whitelisted operators to create, manage, and be responsible for market settlement, similar to the HIP-3 deployment model. This design suggests that Lighter's prediction markets may not be entirely created uniformly by the platform, but rather expanded through authorized operators to broaden market categories.

Analysis: If Democrats Win the U.S. Midterm Elections, Wall Street and the Crypto Industry May Face More Regulatory Scrutiny
Odaily News: If Democrats win a majority in the House or Senate in the U.S. midterm elections, while it may not necessarily prevent the Trump administration from advancing deregulatory policies for Wall Street banks, prediction markets, and the crypto industry, it would gain stronger investigative and oversight tools. If Democrats control either chamber of Congress, they would have subpoena power, larger investigative teams, and the authority to compel government officials and corporate executives to appear at hearings. Wall Street financial institutions, crypto companies, and related regulatory agencies could face more scrutiny. It is reported that crypto industry figures are particularly watching whether Representative Sean Casten may wield greater influence after Democrats regain control of the House Financial Services Committee. Casten has previously pushed to strengthen crypto regulation and opposed the industry-backed CLARITY Act. (Reuters)
Nobel Prize Sounds Alarm for the Fed? Warsh's Communication Cuts Face Theoretical Challenge
Odaily News: The 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics has turned the spotlight on a question that is undergoing change within the Federal Reserve: should the central bank continue to explain its policy logic to the market and signal the future direction of interest rates in advance?Bloomberg columnist Jonathan Levin noted in a commentary published on Tuesday that the research of this year's Nobel laureate in economics, Michael Woodford, happens to pose a challenge to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's stance on forward guidance and policy transparency. Levin argues that Warsh tends to reduce the Fed's external communication, while Woodford's research shows that how a central bank explains its policy decisions is itself an important part of how monetary policy works. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Monday awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics to American economists Robert E. Hall and Woodford, honoring their contributions to the theory of economic stability.
