With new rules in effect, UK law enforcement agencies can confiscate criminal-related crypto assets without conviction

Odaily News New regulations that will help law enforcement agencies confiscate cryptocurrencies used in crimes will come into effect on Friday, the UK Home Office said in a press release. Thanks to these new regulations, the country's police will no longer need to make an arrest before seizing crypto assets. The new regulations were introduced after the UK Parliament passed a crime bill last year that laid the foundation for faster seizure of cryptocurrencies. "It is vital that investigators and prosecutors have the ability and flexibility to keep up with the changing nature of crime, and these new measures will greatly assist our ability to restrict, freeze or eliminate crypto assets from illegal businesses," Chief Crown Prosecutor Adrian Foster said in the press release. Officials will also be able to transfer cryptocurrencies to wallets controlled by law enforcement agencies. They will also be able to destroy these cryptocurrencies if putting them back into circulation is not conducive to the public interest. In addition, the press release noted that confiscated privacy coins may be destroyed. (CoinDesk)
